It’s every dream is to lose excess weight. But many of them fail to do so because of the visceral fat stored in their body. Fat is stored all over your body. Your body’s fat impacts your health differently depending on where it’s stored. While most fat found on another part of our body (arms, legs, buttocks) are considered “subcutaneous fat,” belly fat is more likely to be “visceral.”

“Subcutaneous fat” is the squishy fat between your skin and muscles that keep you warm and contain extra calories. “Visceral fat” also contain extra calories in your body.

Fat doesn’t just store calories- it’s a living tissue capable of producing and releasing hormones that can affect your other organ too. Visceral fat release “bad” cholesterol and blood can also make you less sensitive to insulin, which increases your risk of Diabetes.

Apples and pears: these two fruits give a quick visual of where most of your fat is stored on the body. Pears tend to store fat in hips, thighs and buttock, as subcutaneous fat. Apple tends to store fat in the upper region (belly and chest) as visceral fat.

Waist Circumference (WC): you can also measure your waist circumference with the help of measuring tape. Remember to relax while measuring. Men should have WC of less than 40 inches (102) and women should have less than 35 inches (89 cm).

If your measurements fall in the normal range that’s great! Keep it up. If your weight is not there doesn’t lose hope?  Visceral fat is usually easier fat to burn.
